Revamped the Heart of the Home

Updated: Nov 9

A few months of living out of totes and paint covered clothes as well as lots of tiresome nights working on not just the kitchen but other parts of the home and back and forth from the paint store to Lowes, we finally had what I had envisioned on this kitchen renovation. I was convinced that nights and weekends were starting to fade together as this project carried on for a few months.

You won't find tall archways, soaring archways, or any other dramatic details that you see in all the magazines but that's actually the thing about our renovation that I'm most proud of. We were able to work with a builder's basic kitchen to create a new kitchen that we couldn't love more!

Many now have homes with a complete open floor plan and they are beautiful, but I prefer a closed concept layout with the traditional farmhouse feel.

Before I show all of my "before" and "after" pics (get ready... I took a few!), I want to give a huge thanks to Sherwin Williams Customer Service Department land me in the right direction on choosing the best paint and knowledge on painting Kitchen Cabinets and especially painting over certain various textures of paint. So, with that, let's get going with the kitchen renovation reveal! (post includes affiliate links) I really fell in love with the two different types of cabinets pulls after installing them.

So, let's start by throwing it back to the time of move in January of 2024. I have a mind to envision any room the way I want it to look. Some don't and that's okay, because the ones who couldn't or didn't want to envision a modern revamped home, they left this house and beautiful property for us to purchase and for that I am thankful. I know the minute we saw it I loved it. It had great structure and was built in the late 70s, and we all know that homes built back in the day are mostly structurally sound if well cared for.

Shortly after moving in, we were struck by bad news of my son being diagnosed with cancer and with his hospitalization's things got pushed back to the late summer. Now that he is well and cancer free at this time it was time to start some projects. The first changes came with new appliances after moving in. We purchased a stovetop oven, microwave and dishwasher. That was something that couldn't wait so they were replaced first along with the Island we purchased used and decided to paint it.

With the countertops Corrian I decided to find a color that would complement the countertops and backsplash. I decided to not change them at the current time but to revamp the space on a budget. The Kitchen Cabinets were soiled wood, so I decided I wanted to keep them and not replace them. I did decide to go with white and dark gray and new cabinet hardware. What was originally, let's just paint the kitchen, turned into me deciding to paint the cabinets also. What is a transformation without going almost all the way.

Fast forward and here are a few pictures during the long hard hours put into the renovation.

So much went down in the past few months that I don't know where to begin showing you around, but let's begin showing you around with the biggest changes in this space, the cabinetry. Our cabinets were original to the house and literally they were still in excellent shape. I decided on white for the top cabinets and the perimeter of the kitchen and a beautiful dark gray (arrowhead color) for the Island and bottom cabinets along with the one tall pantry cabinet.

Whites can be really tricky but honestly the standard white color couldn't be more perfect as it blended with everything. I threw at it (countertops, original backsplash, hardware and even the bottom cabinets and the flooring.

I chose the beautiful open pendants lights, the one over the island is flush to the ceiling while the other one is not and is over top the kitchen table. These two are from Lowes and well compliment this kitchen. We also added a new sink faucet to match the new hardware.

My appliances are all smart and work with an app and as well as a timer. This is helpful at times when I am not home, or our cellphone says the stove was left on. I decided on the microwave as it holds just as much but is more compact over top the stove. I chose my dishwasher as I really like the buttons on the top of the door as if anyone leans against it, it will not turn off. My stove was chosen also by me, everyone tells me I analyze everything so with that said they mainly go with my decision as I tell them all the good and bad reasons and advantages of the product. My stove has a built-in air fryer, and I chose that so I could get one countertop appliance off my counter. Win-Win for us all.

My husband and I decided that new doors would update this area. You can get them here:

I think every kitchen needs something that ties in the colors in it together, and I decided to let the original tile back splash do the trick. I like how the cream, white and gray in the tile tie in the colors together to make the statement in this kitchen. I love this kitchen but the one thing I love the most is the bay window behind the kitchen table that allows you to feel like you're surrounded by the outside as well and it gives it a much bigger feel. I now have this beautiful window to look out at our wooded back yard and I love:

The flooring was something that was picked but also within our budget. When I tell you we saved 3 thousand on this flooring I am not kidding you. My husband also installed this in our foyer, and it will be going in other rooms as well. We ended up saving so much and with it being scratch resistant, water resistant, and lifetime, we couldn't pass that deal up. It is a beautiful wood laminate that appears to look like light oak wood. It's beyond gorgeous!

I never hated to cook or do dishes but now it makes staying in the kitchen to cook so much more enjoyable than it used to!

Continuing on down to the coffee bar wall, it is always fun finding little pretties for the shelves to add in along with some favorites: I decided to hang these shelves to bring height to the kitchen allowing me to decorate this area for each season as well as have it for a drink area but especially a coffee bar area.

Now that it's done, we just had our first party and that deadline to meet was stressful, but we did have to do some touch up work after but that was okay, the big job was over in this area for now. I would love to hear what you think of our new space tell me in the comments!!
