Here are a few things we had on our list of things to do in Williamsburg.
We learned about the American history at Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown Settlement
Be sure to make this a must do if you love history and put this on your list, visiting the area won't be complete without visiting what Colonial Williamsburg is known for and that is the historic sites. American Revolution Museum at Yorktown and Yorktown Battlefield (where the American Revolution was won), Jamestown Settlement (where America’s first permanent English colony comes to life), and Colonial Williamsburg (the world’s largest living history museum depicting life in the 18th century) is a must see. All three of these attractions were fully engage you to follow along. There were a great deal of exhibitions and museums that were correlative. Younger children were engaged in the content even if they are not able to read or fully understand the details. Everything was so beautiful, and it took you back in time unlike no other place we have ever visited.
Williamsburg is home to the “World’s Most Beautiful Theme Park”
For 32nd year in a row Busch Gardens has been voted the most beautiful theme park.
A extensive European-themed amusement park is action-packed with 17th-century charm and 21st century technology with more than 130 acres of family fun. … needless to say, it is the home of the top-rated roller coasters with more than 50 rides and attractions, live stage shows and delicious culinary experiences. My children love Busch Gardens, and we visit often with our membership passes to most International parks owned by Sea World.
Busch Gardens is for every age and there is a little something for everyone. There is no shortage of rides or games to choose from. There are plenty of attractions for small children to enjoy, one area is designed for small children specifically called Sesame Street Forest of Fun, my youngest always heads there first. There are specific times to meet and greet Sesame Friends. My older children and I have tackled every roller coaster there and they still love the thrill of them every time.
Tips: If you visit be sure to take sunscreen, and water. My family always purchases the yearly drink thermoses because we can take them back on every visit and they are worth it if your a repeat visitor.
There are Plenty of Dining Options in each town even for the pickiest eaters
Traveling with picky family members often means having to accommodate their food preferences and Busch Gardens has just what I like, and that is multiple variety of choices for each member of the family. While you can’t go wrong picking a spot to eat, we love Trapper's Smokehouse the best for its mouth-watering beef brisket, chicken, and ribs. My youngest is a big macaroni and cheese eater and she found something there besides desert that she loves also. Another must-try is, Das Festhaus, they have multiple food options along with a dinner show while you enjoy your meal. The show was AWESOME.
The presentations of the meals are excellent. Everything was so delicious that we seriously considered returning as we had the meal passes which allows you to eat every 90 mins. but trust me we couldn't as we were stuffed and if it's hot out, we don't eat a lot but drink more so.
Tip: You MUST make a stop at the Emporium. They have an awesome candy shop, and the fudge is awesome.
Get Cooled Off & Have Fun with Water Country USA in Williamsburg, VA
Water Country USA is a water park not far from Busch Gardens. It is the Mid-Atlantic's largest water park, and it offers live entertainment, shops and restaurants, water rides, and other family attractions, all of which have a 1950s or 60s surf theme. Get your pulse racing as you take on the big slides or just simply relax as you float along the lazy river. There is plenty of fun for everyone in your group. Smaller Children have plenty to do for fun also. We had so much fun in the wave pool and the lazy river and my oldest children loved the tallest of the tall water slides of which hold up to six people per raft. I am afraid of heights so climbing up was not my cup of tea but going down was so much fun...
Tip: They provide life jackets for all ages. Don't forget your sunblock...
Resort Lodging in Williamsburg, VA.
If you’re staying at a property with a full kitchen, remember you can save money by cooking and packing lunches to eat outside the parks on the picnic tables they offer or even go back to your place of lodging and have lunch then return back to the parks afterwards.
The family can have fun at the massive indoor and outdoor pools most resorts offer and don't forget the hot tubs. We had hours on hours of fun with multiple guests in the pool playing volleyball most nights at the resort. Alternatively, you can relax in your place if you get exhausted like I did, boy they were long days having fun with lots of walking but I so enjoyed it. We stayed at the Kings Creek Plantation Resort, which was right next to Water Country USA and only a few miles from Busch Gardens.
As I can personally attest, Williamsburg is an excellent destination for families. Historic, educational, adventurous, and relaxing, Williamsburg has more than enough attractions and experiences for adults and kids to enjoy. So many, in fact, that you’ll want to do it all! I’m already planning my next visit. There are a lot of Restaurants to choose from as well in the area if you prefer to eat out even if its just once.
